Project story · restoration instead of replacement
Restoring an old wooden staircase with a two-tone finish
During a major home renovation, the owner planned to replace a wooden staircase that was around 15 years old. We proposed restoring it, selected two colours to suit the interior and showed the result in a visualisation. The owner decided to keep the staircase.

Could the staircase be restored instead of replaced?
The stairs were around 15 years old. During the house renovation, they had become dirty, stained with filler and damaged. The owner intended to replace them, but after inspecting the staircase we offered restoration options.
Choosing two colours for the renovated interior
We selected two shades that worked with the updated interior and prepared a visualisation. Seeing the proposed result helped the owner decide to restore the existing stairs.
Repairing surfaces and replacing the stair skirting
We cleaned and sanded the surfaces, repaired the damage and painted the staircase. At the owner's request, we also made a new wall-side stair skirting board to replace the piece broken during the renovation.
The result, time and cost
Light risers and balusters complement the darker treads and handrail. The complete job took five days. Labour for this October 2025 project was equivalent to €1,400, excluding materials. We estimate each new project separately from photos and the work required.
A previous project completed in Russia.
