Project story · repair preparation for a new staircase
Preparing and painting new stairs after building work
We were called to paint a new wooden staircase, but first had to correct assembly defects. The builder had left gaps, uneven joints and excess filler. The unfinished surfaces had already acquired chips and dents. Preparation and painting took three days altogether.

The cost of this completed project illustrates the work involved; it is not a current fixed quote. Materials are charged separately.

Why the new staircase needed preparation
The request was to paint the stairs, but a coat of paint would not correct uneven surfaces or badly aligned joints. We first assessed the defects that needed attention.
Levelling surfaces and correcting joints
We protected the surrounding furniture, removed excess filler and levelled the surfaces and joints. We filled chips and dents that had developed while the staircase was unprotected.

Painting the stairs and the area underneath
We sealed the junctions with the walls, then painted the staircase and the space beneath it. The complete job, including preparation, took three days.
Time and cost of preparation and painting
This project shows why a new staircase can need repair work before finishing. Labour cost €600. For another staircase, we assess its condition and the required result separately; materials are charged in addition to labour.
